I have read lots of books about diet and nutrition. I cannot get out of the health food store without noticing what’s new to read. I had for 5 1/2 years been eating a diet that helped me so much in keeping my kidney stones away – strict vegan. I enjoyed veggie burgers, lots of salad, carrot juice for breakfast and drank lots of water. I also had started eating lots of dried fruit and nuts. The dried fruit and nuts was helping me get over the yummies I missed out on when all my family was eating “regular” stuff, like steaks and burgers on the grill. Well, I quickly gained 15 – 20 pounds. This appeared in an unsightly bulge around my middle. I felt a little deprived but really thought I was doing the best thing for my body.
Then, Mother’s Day 2013 I began reading Trim Healthy Mama. This is a book written by Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett. I had enjoyed reading Serene’s earlier book about raw food and loved her recipes but the things I was discovering in her new book began to dawn on me with fresh enthusiasm. I could not wait to try some meat. I was a little afraid my body would suffer from shock but no such shock occurred. I had some chicken on the grill the first night after reading the book. It was amazing.
I have had a slow start and have now lost 20 lbs. I have seen my daughters really embrace these lovely recipes and get greater control over the few pounds they have struggled with.
I am really thankful my girls can enjoy good food and keep their lovely figures while they walk through the childbearing years. I had way too many ups and downs during those years. So thankful for the ladies, Serene and Pearl, at THM for all their hard work that so many are benefiting from.
